Roy often reminisced about and so enjoyed the amazing summers spent with family and friends camping at Strawberry Lake. When Roy wasn’t working on the farm or in a field, he enjoyed fishing and trips to Lake of the Woods, driving across the country visiting with many relatives and friends, and winters consisted of snowmobile trips and time spent in Arizona. He was a very active member of the community where he volunteered for the Glyndon Fire Department for 30 years, was involved in the Rod and Gun Club and could be seen regularly with his early morning coffee buddies at the Highway Host and Fry’n Pan. After putting his family first, Roy was involved in many other interests and activities. Even in retirement, he enjoyed helping others with their farm work and was especially grateful to Johnson Farms for their friendship and loyalty over generations of years. Roy took pride in his work and loved farming. He will be remembered for the way he treated others and the love he had for his family.

Roy married Marie (Christensen) on January 19, 1951, and together they made their home and started their family on the farm in Glyndon. Following graduation, Roy continued on his journey becoming a lifelong farmer. He attended school and graduated from Glyndon High School in 1950.
